- Allows the nurse to be present in the moment with the client
- Decreases distractions, increases noticing
- Helps nurse separate own needs from those of the client

Curiosity: A person’s innate or intrinsic desire for experience and knowledge

Self-reflection: the capacity to examine critically one’s own thoughts, emotions, and actions as well as those of another person
