- Vasoconstriction (decrease blood flow) if 15-20 min. application
- increase blood viscosity
- Vasodilation (increase blood flow) if more than 15 min application

- Elevates pain threshold/decrease sensation
- Reduce pain/blood flow/edema/strenght
- Increase strenght (brief cooling) + nerve excitability
- decrease spasticity/nerve conduction
