Q

A patient suffered a blow-out fracture that has collapsed the inferior orbital fissure. What symptoms would the patient have?

A

The Zygomatic branch of CNV and the inferior ophthalmic vein traverse the inferior orbital fissure. A collapse to the inferior orbital fissure would lead to incomplete venous drainage compromising heat exchange and visual function and the zygomatic nerve innervating the skin will be affected.

Q

A patient was found to have a compression lesion affecting the Superior Orbital Fissure. What symptoms would they experience?

A

The Lacrimal Nerve, Frontal Nerve, Superior Ophthalmic vein, Superior Oculomotor nerve, Nasociliary nerve, Abducens nerve

Compression to the Superior Orbital fissure will cause palsy to the lateral rectus, superior rectus, medial rectus, inferior rectus and inferior oblique muscle. Therefore the eye will suffer from one or multiple palsies causing difficulty in adducting, abducting, up-gaze and down-gaze.
