Does the noun phrase or verbal phrase generally come first in a Maori sentence?
Verbal phrase.
What is “kei te?
It’s the same as “E…ana” except it goes before the base rather than around it. It is a dialectal variance.
What’s the difference between “wahine” and “waahine”
“wahine” is “woman”, “waahine” is plural “women”.
What is subject fronting?
Putting stress onto and moving the noun phrase to the front of the sentence.
How do you treat the articles infront of a subject when fronting them?
te: ADD ko
ngaa: ADD ko
he: NO CHANGE
a: ADD ko, DELETE a
e: NO CHANGE
What is a predicate phrase?
Information which adds to the subject phrase.
Where do modifiers/adjectives come in a Maori sentence?
After the noun, not before.
For “E…ana”, where does the verb/adverb sit?
After the base, but still between “e” and “ana”.
