Week 2 Flashcards
Learn week 2
1
Q
Properties of water
A
found readily available on earth, found as liquid gas or solid, most dense at 4 degrees, “sticky” due to H-bonds and polar bonds, is an effective heat resivor
2
Q
Light in aquatic systems
A
light is essential for photosynthesis of primary producers, water is not eaisly penetrated by light, water clarity will influence this and shape the “photic zone” the area where light reaches
3
Q
Sources of dissolved gas in Aquatic Systems
A
The atmosphere - turbulence from riffles in the water aerate the water restocking oxygen. metabloic processes add gases (photosynthesis) plus input from groundwater
Colder water = more dissolved gases
