What is the dynamic range of an image

e.g for 8 bit image (n=2^8) we have 256 grey scale levels. the dynamic range will be 255 (256-1)

where dynamic range doesn’t cover entirety of possible grey scale levels.
is often a result of over/under exposure

will produce poor image contrast (differential between adjacent grey scale intensities)

improves image contrast

A transform is applied to the grey scale intestines (done independently) this then alters the values using cumulative and multiplying by the largest grey level possible (for 3 bit it will be 7)
