Week 2 Flashcards
What is a systematic review and how does it differ from a traditional review?
SR’s are good because they look at multiple populations, settings and circumstances.
A traditional review doesn’t tell you what studies they don’t review.
What are the best/worst types of evidence?
SR, Multi-centre studies, RCT, Observations, Interpretative studies, Descriptive, Focus groups, Expert options, Care studies.
What is Action research?
Able to explore the relationship between the attitudes and aspects of care; and to identify barriers to a change in practice.
Focus groups are good for evaluating healthcare programs
Explain Effectiveness
If the intervention achieves the intended outcomes. RCT + SR provide the best evidence.
Explain Appropriateness
Addresses the impact of the intervention from the recipient’s perspective. Concerned with the psycho/social aspects.
Explain Feasibility
Addresses the broader environment. Determines if the intervention CAN and SHOULD be implemented.
RCT’s and SR’s can go over the scope of just RCT’s as they only look at the effectiveness of the intervention.
