- hedging and hyperpoliteness: uncertainty and lack of authority (ie. “sort of,” “if it’s not too much to ask”

A
- showed us that gender and sexuality is heavily based on perceptions
- gay men have their own reasons to speak a certain way, don’t want to “mock women” as it is not conscious
- this perception also avoids seeing diverse gender expression
- limitations: lesbian(gay) women? heavy western ideologies?
