Piaget
founded cog development, constructivism
3 ways of constructivist theory building
Assimilation (translate info into a way they can understand), Accommodation (revise knowledge structures in response to new info), Equilibration (balance the two to create stable understanding)
Stages of Dev’t
Piagetian Theory/Piagets Stages of Dev’t
Sensorimotor (0-2y)- livce in the here and now
Preoperational (2-7y)- fail conservation tests & others perspectives, apperance (trans)
concrete operational (7-12y)- cant test hypothesis
Formal Operational (12+)- not all reach this stage, can experiment, can think abstractly
probs with Piaget
constructivism– probs with poverty of experience
(but piagets the whole history was based on how kids construct knowledge through interacting with the world)
Stages– inconsistency of the timeline
Infants know coherence, continuity & contact close to birth, usually need right motivators for tests
