Who was Alfred Kinsey?
An American sexual researcher who founded the self-report method.
How did Kinsey start his research?
He stated teaching a class about “marriage” and a university and used his students as research subjects (collected data on their sexual histories)
What two books did Kinsey publish?
Sexual behaviour in the human male (1948)
Sexual behaviour in the human female (1953)
Who were Masters and Johnson?
They were a research team that pioneered research into the nature of human sexual response

What is the vulva?
the broad term that describes all of the structures that make the female external genitalia
What does intersex mean?
have genitals, chromosomes or reproductive organs that don’t fit into a male/female sex binary
what is the mons pubis?
mass of fatty tissue found over the pubic bone, covered in pubic hair
what is the labia majora?
outer folds of skin that form part of the external genitalia in females. The labia majora have a protective function, covering the clitoris, urethra, and vaginal opening
what is the labia minora?
the smaller, inner folds of skin located within the labia majora
what is the clitoris?
a small, very sensitive part of the female genitalia located at the top where the inner lips (labia minora) meet. It is important for sexual pleasure and arousal. The clitoris has a lot of nerve endings and is made of similar tissue to the penis, making it highly sensitive
what is the vestible?
the area where the vaginal opening structures are located and helps in sexual and urinary functions
what is the vaginal opening?
the entrance to the vagina, located within the vestibule of the female external genitalia
what is the perineal body?
structure located in the perineum, the area between the genitals and the anus
significance of pubic hair?
- protection from friction, irritation
- removal indicated cleanliness in some cultures
- a form of self-expression
- Internet and social media has increased these trends of removal even more
