Week 2 Flashcards
What is a diode?
A diode is a semiconductor device that allows current to flow in one direction.
What is the left side of the diode called?
Anode (P type semiconductor material)
What is the right side of a diode called
Cathode(N type semiconductor material)
When connecting a diode where must the anode and cathode connect to?
The anode connects to the positive and the cathode connects to the negative.
What is it called when current is travelling forward through a diode?
Forward bias mode
What’s it called when current is travelling backwards through a diode?
Reverse bias mode
How much voltage do we need to make a diode conduct?
.7 volts
What is bulk resistance and how is it measured?
Bulk resistance is the total resistance of a diode and its measured by adding the R value of positive and negative materials
What does the symbol look like?
——>|——
What range should I use on my VOM if I’m measuring 7 volts
10V range
