week 2 Flashcards
difference between labile and stable cells
labile cells continuously replicate through mitosis and stable cells undergo mitosis when needed
how does meiosis display genetic vulnerability?
independent assortment
crossing over (genetic recombination)
random fertilisation
what is an example of a sex linked disease
deutranopia - red green colour blindness
X linked recessive
In female if both homozygous recessive it will be expressed but in males as there is no corresponding allele on the Y chromosome even if one copy allele is present the disease will be expressed
what are some uses for glucose
used as fuel (especially for neuron’s and RBCs - rely only on glucose)
excess converted to glycogen
used to create pentose sugar, cells glycocalyx and secreted into ground substance
2 essential fatty acids needed through our diet
Linoleic acid - omega 6 fatty acid
Linolenic acid - omega 3 fatty acid
