week 2 Flashcards
“Pts w/ HTN who receive phone reminders and have good family
support have lower blood pressure than those who do not.”
Identify the Dependent variable and Independent variable
IV: Recieve phone reminders and family support;
DV: lower blood pressure
what is Type II error ?
not rejecting the null hypothesis when it’s actually false
false negative
the test result says you don’t have coronavirus, but you actually do..
a Type II error means failing to conclude there was an effect when there actually was. In reality, your study may not have had enough statistical power to detect an effect of a certain size.
what is type Type I error?
A Type I error means rejecting the null hypothesis when it’s actually true. It means concluding that results are statistically significant when, in reality, they came about purely by chance or because of unrelated factors.
false positive
A PCR test of shows a positive result; however, the patient is not infected
what is null hypothesis (H0)?
the assumption of no difference between groups or no relationship between variables in the population
eg. the new drug has no effect on symptoms of the disease.
what is alternative hypothesis? (H1)
our research prediction of an actual difference between groups or a true relationship between variables.
eg. the drug is effective for alleviating symptoms of the disease.
directional hypothesis
It states that there is a relationship and its expected direction
