What is Single Loop Learning?
The detection and correction of an error without changing basic underlying organizational norms.
- Corrections made instinctively by responding to conditions in the best possible way
- Learning is facilitated by adjustments made along the way
What is Double Loop Learning?
Involves the detection and correction of an error AND a change in basic underlying organizational norms
- Usually occurs after thoughtful reflection
- It not only changes practice but fundamental organizational beliefs and culture
- It can cause organizational leaders to re-think “It could never happen to us.”
