Into the Wild Chapters 1-4

direct characterization
When a writer shows a character’s personality through actions, speech, thoughts, appearance, and interactions with others.
For example: “John always gave his lunch money to those who needed it more.” (The writer shows John’s kindness through his actions, but doesn’t explicitly tell the reader that John is kind.)
indirect characterization
adjective; Lacking due concern; happy and carefree in an unserious way; Sentence from original text: “Standing on the bare ground, my head bathed by the ~~~ air, and uplifted into infinite space, all mean egotism vanishes.”; Additional example sentence: “He spoke with ~~~ ignorance of the true situation.”
blithe
