Week 12: Forest Ecohydrology & Mine Site Hydrology. Flashcards
Zhang curve
Analysed data from catchments around the world and separated the data for grassland and forested catchments into two distinct Actual Evapotranspiration curves.
Ecological optimality
Once trees are transpiring close to all of the annual rainfall that is available to them, biomass must reach an equilibrium with annual climate.
Leaf Area Index
Literally the amount of total leaf area (m2)
De-watering
The removal of water from an active mine area.
Acid mine drainage
Caused when water flows over or through sulphur-bearing materials forming solutions of net acidity.
Tailings
The materials left over after the process of separating the valuable fraction from the worthless fraction of an ore.
Pit lake
When a mine is abandoned and water flows into the pit.
