What is a cult?
any teachings that deviate from the historical biblical view of God. they replace the authority of Gods word with some new man-made revelation or teaching
What are the 4 categories of cults?
1) Pseudo-Christian Cults
2) Oriental Cults (hinduism/buddhism inspired)
3) New Age Cults “We are God”
4) Occult-Spiritistic Cults
How do you differentiate from true biblical revelation from false revelation?
1) Test the prophet
2) Test the teaching
What is Postmodernism?
Postmodernism is the denial of a personal creator and there is no absolute truth
What is mormonism?
It is a term defining the religious beliefs and practices of members of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
What is the Jehovah Witness belief system?
Believe that only a certain amount of people can make it to heaven. But they evangelize in order to please the organization and prove to Jehovah that they’re worthy for salvation
What is catholicism?
Go against the 3 major Solas ( bible, christ, and faith alone). Entire doctrine is built on Matthew 16:18. The church/traditions have equal or even more authority than scripture.
What is the galactic habitable zone?
It is the region of a galaxy which life might most likely develop
What is the Copernican Principle?
the earth occupies no preferred place in the universe
What is the principle of mediocrity?
“our location and status is mediocre, we should not assume that our universe was designed for us or for beings like us in mind.”
what is irreducible complexity?
All components of a system must present or it ceases to function
What is Methodological Naturalism?
A presupposition that only allows natural or mechanistic causes or events to be considered in scientific explanations of observed phenomena. Non-natural or intelligent causes are therefore excluded from consideration.
