What are the Stages of Production?
Development Pre-Production Production Post-Production Distribution Release or Exhibition
What is a parent company?
An organisation that controls a group of sub-companies, for example Seven West Media runs Channel 7, as well as newspapers, magazines, radio stations and Yahoo!7
What is Integrated Media?
A company that doesn’t just focus its ownership and control on one type of media, such as TV, but across different types of media, e.g. Newspapers, the web, etc
What are the two important issues that generally define the business of media?
Cost and Profit (Revenue)
What is a media product?
A TV show, radio show, film or any other media project
What are the two main ways to make money from a media product?
- An upfront fee

What does the word Recoupment mean?
Making money back on a media product - the back-end
What is the difference between a Distributor and and Exhibitor?
A Distributor is a person or company who arranges a film to be shown in a cinema. An Exhibitor is the person who shows the film in a cinema
What are the two important differences between the sale of film and television shows?
- There is no Box Office
- There are no TV sales in the country in which it is produced (the TV network has already paid for it in pre-production)
What is a television Format?
The overall concept of a TV program which has been copyrighted by the creator of the concept (or a Producer)
What are the four main sources where producers get money to make shows?
- The TV Network itself (at least 45% of the entire budget)
- State Government funding bodies (e.g. Screen Qld)
- Federal Government Funding Bodies (e.g. Screen Australia)
- The Tax Office
What is a way other than TV Networks and Government funding that Producers can get money to make shows?
Corporate sponsorship and product placement
What are the four main areas of Media Convergence?
Technological (TV, iPads, etc)
Industrial (companies broadcasting media content on external platforms)
Social (Social Media Apps - Live and later on)
Textual (Content is reused and reshaped for different media platforms)
What are the two forms in which production houses exist?
- Inside a television network
