The act of political elites securitizing issues (turning something into an act of security in order to gain political capital)
When there is a security aspect for an issue, political leaders are more willing to put policy and money into it (justifies the provision of extra resources and the suspension of rights)

Investigate the historical processes of European colonials and how this impacts contemporary security issues (immigration, globalization, and nation-building)
