Define EBP or evidence based health care practice
Term used to describe process that nurses use to make clinical decisions and answer clinical questions based on the best available research evidence, their clinical expertise and patient preferences in the context of existing resources
When/why do we as nurses need to seek out evidence
- Something out of ordinary
- Pt with characteristics not seen before
- outcomes might differ in 2 pts with no obvious reasons
- developing policied/standards
What is the purpose of an abstract?
- Summarises the report
* Will explain-why research conducted, where and how done and with whom, what it found, what are implications
Why might an abstract be useful for us to read?
- use to see if it answers your question
* Don’t have to read whole article-helps with lit search, saves times

- focus on understanding humans within context of their lives-tried to build complete picture of thing of interest
- involves collecting info as expressed by people
- focus on subjective info-don’t try to predict/control thing looking at

- focus on understanding/breaking down thing/phenomenon into parts to see how they do or dont connect
- collect info that is specified and limited to what is being studied
- objective info-can predict and control
