Week 1 Pro Tools Edit Modes Flashcards
What is the function of the Shuffle Edit Mode?
Red!
In shuffle mode, clip movement is constrained to other clips. can only move a clip before or after another clip.
- Once I delete a clip between two other clips in shuffle mode the later clip will shuffle forward to fill the space
What is the function of the Slip Edit Mode? (Green)
- Free editing mode!
- Move clips there are no constraints
- Trim freely
What is the function of the Spot Edit Mode? (Orange)
Useful for sound effects
- Move or reposition a clip to an exact location by using the spot dialog box
What is the function of the Grid Edit Mode? (Blue)
All clip movement and edits will be constrained to the grid.
- The blue lines are my grid, my grid value at the top of my edit toolbar is where I can change where I want each grid line to be set at ex. 1 bar | 1/2 note | 16th note
- All movements snap to the grid, Trimming will also snap to the grid + Fade snaps to the grid
What is the function of Relative Grid Edit Mode? aka Migos grid. (offset)
Allows me to move a clip based on my grid value for ex. set at 1 bar grid, but it will maintain the clips relative position to the Grid. Offset to the grid makes it a relative grid.
Tip How to temporarily switch from different modes
For ex. If I’m working in grid mode I can hold the command key on my keyboard allows me to temporarily suspend the grid. Acting as if I was editing in slip mode.
Same in reverse to slip mode hold the command key down and move a clip and it will snap to the grid
I can get the best out of slip and grid mode all by just holding down one key command.
