How to Solve Role questions

A
  1. Find the Conclusion
  • find the author’s opinion, at least 1 piece of evidence supporting it, and make sure it’s not an intermediate conclusion.
  1. Find evidence.
  2. If the question stem asks about the conclusion or evidence as the cited portion, head to the answer choices. If not, think about what role the cited portion plays in the arg. Is it neutral to the conclusion (e.g. Background information), does it oppose the conclusion (opposing viewpoint, concession)?
