Week 1 - Intro to the Module Flashcards
Define a Device Ecology
A device ecology refers to a collection of devices with relationships among each other, that is, these devices can communicate with one another and are aware of each other’s presence
Define Human-Centred Design
Human-centered design (HCD) is a design and management framework that develops solutions to problems by involving the human perspective in all steps of the problem-solving process.
Name 3 Input Devices and 3 Output devices.
Input - Keyboard, Mouse, Microphone.
Output - Monitor, Speaker, Printer.
What is an Interface useful for?
Operator provides minnimal input to acheive the desired output, machine minimises undesired outputs to the human.
Discuss Safety Implications attributed to Human-Centred Design.
There has been a number of plane and train disasters that have been attributed to faulty displays or to operators not understanding or interpreting displays correctly.
Discuss Ethics implications associated to Human-Centred Design
There are standards and legal requirements that need to be met by designs. Ethical design is needed because the systems that are produced should be easy and enjoyable to use, as they affect the quality of people’s lives.
Discuss Privacy implications associated to Human-Centred Design.
It is vital that people know where the data that they give is going and how it might be used. People need to trust the systems and be in a position to make choices about privacy and how they are represented.
