Name some implications of Brexit for employers
- Industries that rely on low skilled EU migrants will have difficulties recruiting e.g. agriculture
- There will be a shortage of high skilled manual EU migrants e.g. carpenters, builders
- Talent shortage

- Need to identify gaps in the current and future workforce
Define HRM
The process of hiring and developing employees so that they become more valuable to the organisation.
What are the goals of human resource management?
- Support the organisation in achieving its objectives
- Contribute to the development of a high-performance culture
- Ensure an organisation has the talented and skilled employees it needs
- Create a positive employment relationship between management and employees
Define human capital
The knowledge, skills and abilities, and the capacity to develop and innovate possessed by people in an organisation
What are some challenges to managing human capital?
- An increasingly diverse working population
- Rapidly changing business and consumer macro environment characterised by intense competition
- Growth in high skills, flexible and knowledge based work
- Worker alienation negatively affecting recruitment
- Stricter legislation around fairness at work
Define employee engagement
The harnessing of an organisations member selfs to their work roles. In engagement, people employ and express themselves physically, cognitively and emotionally during role performances
What is blind recruitment?
Removing personally identifiable information from CV’s e.g. gender and age to overcome unconscious bias
Define workplace culture
The collection of traditions, values, beliefs, policies and attitudes that constitute a pervasive context for everything we do and think in an organisation
