Week 1: Hip Flashcards
Classify the hip joint
synovial, multi-axial, ball and socket
What are the articular surfaces of the hip joint?
head of femur and acetabulum
What is hip joint capsule reinforced by?
capsular ligaments
What are open kinetic chains (OKC)?
movements where the thigh moves
What are closed kinetic chains (CKC)?
movements where the pelvis moves
What movements occur in the sagittal plane?
hip flexion/extension (OKC) and ant/post pelvic tilt (CKC)
What movements occur in the coronal plane?
hip add/abd (OKC) and pelvic drop/lift (CKC)
What movements occur in the transverse plane?
hip medial/lateral rotation (OKC) and right/left pelvic rotation (CKC)
What is an angle of inclination?
angle of head of femur relative to the shaft
What is the normal range for angle of inclination?
120-135 degrees
what is coxa varum?
decreased angle of inclination, knock knees
What is coxa valgum?
increased angle of inclination, bow legs
What is an angle of anteversion?
angle of neck of femur relative to femoral condyles
What is the normal range of angle is anteversion?
10-15 degrees
Name the capsular ligaments of the hip joint
iliofemoral ligament (superior and inferior band), pubofemoral ligament and ischiofemoral ligament
