Week 1 Cranial Nerves Flashcards

1
Q

what are the five functional capacities that cranial nerves can carry

A
  1. motor fibers to voluntary striated muscles (somatic motor/general somatic efferent)
  2. motor fibers to involuntary muscles; smooth and glands (general visceral efferent)
  3. sensory from the skin and mucous touch, taste, smell etc. membranes (general somatic afferent) CN 5, 7, 9, 10.
  4. sensation from the viscera (general visceral afferent) from carotid body, lungs, heart, GI tract etc.
  5. unique sensations like tastes from visceral afferent and special senses from somatic afferent
