Week 1 + 2: Randoms Flashcards
Lamina
- Component of basal lamina (on muscle)
- stops growth cone and starts accumulation of synaptic vesicles
Agrin
Made in motor neuron
- Agrin receptor = complex MuSK
- Activation = Aggregation of Ach receptors
Note: postnatal, replaces gamma subunits with E subunits.
Note: Rapsyn.
Wernicke area: Location + Aphasia
- left posterior superior and middle temporal cortex
- Loss of receptive + comprehension but still able to speak fluently.
Brocha area: Location + Aphasia
- left posterior frontal cortex + underlying structures
- Impaired speech but is able to understand simple sentences
Learning of frequency + intensity vs duration
- Frequency and intensity = adult level by 6 months
- Duration = adult level by 5-10 years
Longevity: IGF-1 + TOR + TOR inhibitor
- Increase Longevity: Inhibition of IGF-1 or TOR
Note: deletion of TSC1 (mTOR inhibitor) leads to decrease longevity.
Werner Syndrome
- Mut: WRN Chromosome 8 = DNA/RNA helicase (Nuclear translocation sequence)
- Normal development until puberty
- Death at 56 yo (MI, cancer, etc. Cataracts too)
Hutchinson-Gilford Syndrome
- Mut: LMNA = Nuclear intermediate
- Leads to accumulation of progerin
- Growth restriction by 6 months, death by 14 yo.
Treatment of ADHD
1) Dextroamphetamine = only FDA approved medication for
Treatment for Autsim
Risperidone + Aripiprazole: Atypical psychotics
- ONLY medication approved in the treatment of autism spectrum disorder
Fluoxetine: SSRI, treat repetitive behavior, anxiety, behavior
Lithium: Mood disorders
