What is Staniszekwi’s Theory?

A

Q

What is the institutional theory?

A

Coined by George Dicke; He says something that’s a piece of art is an artifact, meaning its only art when its on display. Additionally, someone on behalf of an institution can declare an artwork as art

17
Q

What are arguments against the Institutional Theory?

A

With no encompassing definition of art, you can’t “appreciate” it. Thus, many artworks are admired out of the public eye and institutions and are still given value despite not adhering to the institutional theory.
