Banner ad
the use of a rectangular graphic display that stretches across the top, bottom, or sides of a website or online media property.
Bandwidth
The range of frequencies that can pass over a given transmission channel.
Bitmap
an array of bits that specify the color of each pixel in a rectangular array of pixels
Bookmark
a place holder for a web page that will allow you quick access to that page instead of having to browse to it or search for it.
Domain name
a string of text that maps to an alphanumeric IP address, used to access a website from client software
Download
the transmission of a file or data from one computer to another over a network, usually from a larger server to a user device.
Flash
a type of nonvolatile memory that erases data in units called blocks and rewrites data at the byte level
Frames
A control procedure used with multiplexed digital channels, whereby bits are inserted so the receiver can identify the time slots allocated to each channel.
Gateway
A computer that sits between different networks or applications.
Hit
An individual visit to a website or Web page, expressed as a measure of its popularity
Home page
the default or front page of a site
Hot spot
a specific location that provides Internet access via a wireless local area network (WLAN)
Hyperlink
An area on a Web page that, when clicked on with a mouse, will transport the user to another Web page
java Script
a scripting or programming language that allows you to implement complex features on web pages
Meta tag
snippets of text that describe a page’s content
portable document format
QuickTime
a discontinued extensible multimedia architecture created by Apple, which supports playing, streaming, encoding, and transcoding a variety of digital media formats.
