Weathering! Flashcards
Denudation?
The process of lowering Earths land surface through weathering and erosion, reducing elevation and relief.
Relief?
The difference in height of land on the Earths surface.
Weathering?
The breakdown of rock through to exposure to weather and organisms. It doesn’t transfer broken down scree.
Erosion?
Weathering, that transfers that scree, through sources such as lakes or wind.
Denudation?
Weathering and erosion.
Latitude?
The distance north and south of the equator.
Altitude?
Height above sea level.
Formula for carbonic acid?
C02 + H20 = H2C03
Oxidation?
A chemical weathering process, where oxygen changes minerals like iron forming rust, that breaks down rocks over time.
Lichen?
A biological weathering type, where an organism made of fungus and alga, grows in rocks and produces chemicals that dissolve the rocks surface.
Karst Landscape
An area of exposed limestone, formed by glaciation. That’s features are from carbonation.
