What is a Weather Balloon?
Helium-filled balloons that are launched 2 or more times per day from weather stations across North America
What is a Weather Radar?
A weather radar sends out radio waves that are then reflected by
objects in the air such as rain, snow, hail, etc.
What is Remote sensing technology?
technology that collects data from a distance
What is a Doppler Radar?
A Doppler radar shows the geographical extent, intensity and movement of precipitation.
What is a Weather Satellite?
An orbiting spacecraft that regularly gathers weather-related data and images and relays them to weather stations on the ground
What is a Meteorologist?
A person who studies weather
What is a Cold Front?
The leading edge of an advancing cold air mass
What is a Warm Front?
The retreating edge of a cold air mass as a warm air mass approaches
What is a Stationary Front?
The boundary between two air masses that are not moving
