What are the 3 types of weather reporting?
Metar - Current Information
TAF - Forecast
Metrological Forcasts - Forecasts
What is a Metar - when is it issued?
Current conditions at an aerodrome
Hourly - manual (during operations )
30 minutes - AUTO ( day or night )
What is a Speci?
Special Metar
Issued if weather conditions change signifcantly or exceed certain conditions
Detoriating - issued immediately
Improving - issued after 10 minutes
Issue time - to the nearest 5 minutes
What is a Trend with regards to a metar/TAF?
Only issued for TAF - it’s a trend forecase
Only reports:
- Wind
- Vis
- Weather Phenomem
- State of Sky
When are windshear conditions reported ( actual or expected )?
Only actual.
Usually from Pireps or observations
For the landing and take-off paths only
What is a basic weather report? How are they generated?
Observations from people outside of normal channels:
- Pilots and ground staff
- Individuals, with equipment
If they use equipment they are required to confirm it is maintained.
What is a TAF?
What is the validatity period?
What is in the issue period?
Terminal Area Forecast.
Valid - 24 hours ( major centers )
For major centers ( NZAA, NZWN, NZCH) - issued 4 times a day.
For other centers, see AIP.
Issued 1 hour before start
What are the 3 change indicators?
Tempo
Becoming
NOSIG= - no significant
Note: This only apply for the DURATION of the report.

State of Sky
Temp/Dew
QNH
Are winds in Magnetic or True for:
Metar

ATIS?
