Weather & METAR Reports Flashcards
Thin layer of atmosphere where the normal decrease in temperature with height switches to the temperature increasing with height.
Warm air on top of cold air.
Temperature Inversion.
Keeps normal convective overturning of the atmosphere from penetrating through the inversion.
Red sunset, fog, haze, low clouds, poor visibility, but smooth air.
Cause of turbulence.
Moist, unstable air.
Also causes showery precipitation.
Results from Stable Air.
Smooth air, poor visibility, and steady (not showery) precipitation (because stable air is usually humid).
Results from Unstable Air.
Intermittent precipitation.
Air: Cool + Dry.
Stable.
Air: Hot + Humid.
Unstable.
High Density Altitude.
Just means “high altitude”.
Air is thinner, so lift is decreased.
Type of cloud: Nimbus.
Rain Cloud.
