Weather Fronts Flashcards
Air masses
a large body of air that has similar humidity, tempreture, etc
Cold Front
This weather front occurs when a cold, denser air mass pushes under a warm air mass, forcing the warm air to rise quickly. This weather front brings a sudden drop in temperature, and can cause short heavy rain or thunderstorms
Occluded Front
When a warm air mass is between two cold air masses the warm air mass rises cool air masses push and meet in the middle. This causes large amounts of rain or snow. The symbol for this front is a triangle and a half circle on the same side of the line.
Stationary Front
A stationary front forms when a cold air mass meets a warm air mass without any effects, and the two air masses remain seperated. This can cause cloudy, wet weather.
Warm Front
This weather front occurs when a warmer, less dense air mass slowly goes over a colder air mass. This front brings long lasting snow
Weather Front
When two or more air masses collide, it can create a variety of weather
