Q

Identify the three main types of rainfall and explain how they occur

A

Conventional rain = 1. The sun heats the ground 2. The hit land heats the air. The warm air then rises. 3. Rising air cools and condenses to form clouds which build up and it rains

Relief Rain = 1. Warm moist air is being blown in from the sea 2. Air is forced up by higher land 3. The air cold and starts to condense to form clouds

Frontal Rain = 1. As the warm air meets colder air it rises up over it. 2. Cooling and condensing to form clouds and rain

Q

To know what air pressure is and how it effects weather

A

High pressure = generally brings settled weather with clear skies, no rain and calm conditions

Low pressure = generally brings unsettled weather, rain , grey skies and wind

Q

Explain how factors influence climate

A

Latitude= As latitude increases the average annual temperature decreases

Distance from coast= The sea is colder than the land in summer and warmer in winter. So a sea breeze keeps the coast cool in the summer and warm in the winter

The wind direction= In Uk, the main wind direction is from the South - west
This brings warm, wet weather from the Atlantic Ocean.

Ocean currents = Warm currents: Warmer climates

Cold currents = colder climates

Altitude = As altitude increases , the average anual temperature decreases

Shelter= A sheltered place will te do to be warmer and drier

Q

Identify equipment for measuring weather and explain how weather is measured

A

Barometer= An instrument used to measure the pressure in the atmosphere

Wind vane= An instrument that is used to tell us in which direction the wind goes

Anemometer = An instrument used to measure the speed of the wind

Rain gauge = An instrument that is used to measure the amount of water in mm that has fallen in a zone

Thermometer= An instrument that is used to tell us the the temperature of something
