Weather and Climate Flashcards
Describe a tropical climate zone. And give one example of a place.
Hot, high levels of annual rain fall.
Brazil.
What is climate?
Climate is the average of the weather conditions.
How many different climate zones/regions can be found on earth. Name them:
Six. Tropical. Temperate. Medittereanean Dry/Arid Cold/Mountains Polar.
Give an example how you could describe a country’s climate?
Warm dry summers, cold wet winters etc.
Describe a cold/mountains climate zone. Example.
Very cold all year.
Some places in China.
How does latitude effect the climate?
Equater receives more direct sunlight, therefore it is hotter.
How do we describe weather?
We describe temperature, wind speed and direction, precipitation (rain), cloud cover and visibility.
What is weather?
The current state of the atmosphere.
How does Altitude effect the climate?
As altitude increases the atmosphere gets thinner and colders.
What is the difference between weather and climate?
Weather is the current state of the atmosphere/air.
Climate is the weather conditions over a period of time.
Describe a mediteranean climate zone. Example.
Mild winters, dry hot summers.
Greece.
How do Humans effect the climate?
By diverting natural water causes, and altering the earths atmosphere by pumping carbon dioxide into the air.
How do we work out climate?
We take an average of weather measurements over a 30 year period.
Describe a dry/arid climate zone. Example.
Dry, hot all year.
Middle of Australia.
How do Prevailing winds effect the climate?
The winds can carry heat or moisture.
