Q

What’s a visibility meter?

A

It’s a instrument that sends out a beam of light then a sensor detects how much light gets through the sensor. If lots of light gets through its high visibility and if a little bit of light gets through its low visibility.

Q

What’s a barometer?

A

It tells you what the weathers like. If it rises it means dry sunny weather if it falls it means really bad weather. It works by measuring if air pressure is rising or falling.

It means how much of its hidden by clouds it’s given in oktas and you measure it using you eyes

18
Q

What does wind speed mean wats it measured in and what do you use to measure it ?

A

It means how fast the winds the winds blowing it’s measured in per hour and to measure it you use a anemometer

19
Q

What is wind direction what’s it measured in and what’s it measured using?

A

It means where the winds blowing from its measure in N E S W like on a compass and you use a wind vane.

20
Q

What does precipitation mean what’s it measured in and what do you use to measure it?

A

It means water falling from the sky in any form it’s measured in millimetres and to measure it you use a rain gauge

21
Q

What dies visibility mean what is it measured in abd what do you use to measure it?

A

It means how far away can we see on a foggy day it’s measured in km and to measure it you use a visibility meter

22
Q

What part of the uk in warm and damp

A

Sw

23
Q

What part of the uk is dryer (and cooler in the winter)?

A

East

24
Q

Which part of the uk is colder?

A

North

25
Q

What part of the uk is warmer?

A

South

26
Q

What part of the uk is wetter?

A

The middle

27
Q

What does closeness to mean?

A

It means it’s mild in the winter and cooler in the summer

28
Q

What are the 3 different types of rain called?

A

Relief rain, conventional rain and frontal rain

29
Q

What is relief rain?

A

It falls on high grounds in the uk we get relief rainfall on hill near the west coast

30
Q

What is convectional rain?

A

It falls on warm sunny days when the ground heats up. In the uk we get convectional rainfall during the summer

31
Q

What is frontal rain?

A

It’s where warm air and cold air meets, at a front. This rain often falls in the uk, when warm air from the equator meets cold air from the arctic

32
Q

What is high pressure?

A

It’s when the sir is sinking down on the ground - it often brings fine settled weather

33
Q

What do clouds do?

A

Keeps the heat on

34
Q

There are no clouds when ……….……….

A

The air is sinking

35
Q

At night what does water vapour do?

A

It condenses on the ground to form dew (or frost in the winter).

36
Q

What does no clouds mean?

A

There’s no rain and lite of sunshine

37
Q

What does low pressure mean?

A

Low pressure is when their so rising from the ground - it often brings wind and rain

38
Q

When the air is rising its …………..

A

Cloudy and windy and rainy

39
Q

How do you find how much rainfall there is for a year?

A

You add up how much rainfall there was in a year by adding how much rainfall there was each month and then add that up to make the total

40
Q

The sun warms oceans, lakes and seas, turning water into water vapour. This is called _. The air _ high up where its cooler, the water vapour _ into tiny water droplets. These form _. The droplets, leading to _. The water drops falls in any form of rain. Some water runs along the ground, and some soaks though it, heading for streams and rivers. The river carries the water back to the _. The _ is compleat.

A

Evaporation, rises, condenses, clouds, precipitation, ocean, cycle

41
Q

What’s a stevensons screen?

A

It has a slanted roof so rain doesn’t sit on the roof. Two thermometers
It’s white to reflect the sun
Has long les so if the floor is feisty it doesn’t get colder
