Houses farms and buildings grouped together into villages
What’s a linear settlement shape?
Houses and buildings located along a road river or canal common in steep sided narrow valleys
What is a loose knit?
Buildings that are more spread out although loosely grouped around a crossroad or junction

Big city

A small village

Low order services such as post offices doctors and news agents
What do large towns, cities, and conurbation provide?
Low and high order services such as leisure centres, hospitals.
What do large settlements have?
Large Sphere of influence but if it was a smaller settlement it would have a small sphere of influence
What do cities such as London have?
Global sphere of influence but villages or hamlets only have a sphere of influence of a couple of kilometres
If cities have a large sphere of influence what does it do?
Attracts people from wider areas

Small settlements dotted around the country side (farms and hamlets)
