How does aspect affect Britain’s weather?
Places that are south facing are usually warmer than places that are north facing
How does relief affect Britain’s weather?
Places that are higher up and are more mountainous are colder than places on flat land
How does distance from the sea affect Britain’s weather?
Places nearer to the sea in summer are usually cooler and further from the sea are warmer. Places nearer to the sea in winter and usually warmer than places further from the sea
How does latitude affect Britain’s weather?
Places nearer to the equator are warmer and places nearer to the poles are colder
What are the 5 air masses which contribute to Britain’s weather?
Tropical maritime, polar maritime, tropical continental, polar continental, arctic maritime
What weather does tropical maritime bring?
Summer= warm, rainy, cloudy Winter= mild, rainy, cloudy
What weather does tropical continental bring?
Summer= dry, very hot, sunny Winter= dry, warm, sunny
What weather does polar maritime bring?
Summer= showers, cool, dull Winter= rainy, cool, cloudy
What weather does polar continental bring?
Summer= hot, dry, sunny Winter= very cold, dry
What weather does arctic maritime bring?
Summer= cold, cloudy, rainy Winter= very cold, snowy
What is a depression?
A low pressure system with winds that travel in an anti clockwise direction.
What do warm fronts bring?
Steady rain, less clouds (stratus), becoming warm
What do warm sectors bring?
Rain turns to drizzle, very warm, very dry
What do cold fronts bring?
Heavy rain, lots of cumulonimbus clouds, becoming cold
What do cold sectors bring?
Very cold, very wet
