What is weather?
It is what the atmosphere or air is like a a particular time.
What are the 5 areas we look at to measure weather?
Temperature, cloud cover, wind direction, wind speed, precipitation

How hot or cold the air is
How do you measure temperature?
With a thermometer.
What is wind?
Movement of air, can move up and down in a circle and across the land
How can you describe or measure wind?
It is how strong or fast it is, and the direction it is blowing from.
How do you measure wind?
With a special instrument called an anemometer.
What are the type of wind for 5 km/h, 6 - 9 km/h, 20-39 km/h, 40 - 61 km/h, 62 - 87 km/h, 88 - 118 km/h, 119 km/h
calm, light breeze, breeze, strong wind, gale, storm, hurricane
How do you measure the direction of wind?
You measure wind direction by the direction the wind is coming from.
What are the 8 compass points?
N, NE, E, SE, S, SW, W, NW
How do you measure wind direction?
Wind vane or a wind sock
What is cloud cover?
It describes how much of the sky is covered by cloud
What is precipitation?
Rain, snow, hail and other forms of water that fall to the group.
Rain = water falls in droplets
Hail = water falls as frozen raindrops during a thunderstorm
Snow =water falls as frozen ice
When rain falls only for a short time and there are heavy drops of rain, what is it called?
A shower
