Q

How does Temperature work?

A

The air is made up of gas molecules (two or more atoms combined together). These gas molecules are constantly moving and colliding with one another and solid surfaces. TEMPERATURE is a measure of how fast these gas molecules are moving; the faster they move, the hotter the temperature feels.

Q

How do you measure temperature, and how does it work?

A

Temperature is measured using a thermometer, and it is a long glass tube with a thin glass rod in it. The base of the rod, or the bulb, has a liquid (either red liquid or mercury). The liquid expands due to heat, and rises to a certain level, marked with markings in degrees Celcius, and that determines the temperature.

Q

What are two precautions you can take when measuring temperature?

A

When measuring temperature outside, do it under shade. Keeping the thermometer directly under the sun can cause it to heat up and make the liquid expand, making the readings higher than it is. You should also let the thermometer adjust for several minutes before taking any readings.
