How does latitude affect temperature? (2)

A
  • The closer a place is to the equator the warmer the temperature.
  • Solar rays have to travel through less atmosphere to get to the equator and don’t loose as much energy.

A
  • The higher the altitude the colder the temperature.
  • There is a drop of 1°c for every 100m you climb.

A
  • In Summer the closer one is to the sea, the colder they are.
  • This is because the water takes longer to heat up than the mainland.
  • In winter the closer on is to the sea, the warmer they are.
  • This is because the water takes longer to loose it’s heat.

  • If winds are coming from the north (the Arctic), temp will decrease.
  • If winds are coming from the South (Central Europe/Africa), temp will increase.
