What is a characteristic of unstable air?
Turbulence, showery rain
What is characteristic of stable air?
Poor visibility, steady rain
What is standard day?
Pressure altitude equals density altitude. 15 degree Celsius and 29.92 hz. (Pressure at sea level)
What is an outlook weather briefing?
An outlook weather briefing is requested if your flight is 6 hours or more in the future as well as current weather conditions.
What is a standard weather briefing?
Brief statement describing the type, location and movement of weather systems and air masses that may affect your flight.
What are the three things needed to form thunderstorms?
Moisture in the air, an unstable atmosphere, and a lifting force.
What is the three stages of thunderstorms?
Cumulus stage, mature stage, and dissipating stage.
What is a characteristic of cumulus stage?
Updrafts. 3-5 mile height.
Characteristics of the mature stage?
Most dangerous stage. Both updrafts and downdraft. Rain marks the beginning of the mature stage. Lightening, turbulence and hail. Microburts can occur at this stage which can last for 2-5minutes. Winds up to 168 mph.
Characteristics of dissipating stage?
This stage mostly consists of downdraft. Could be some moisture, light rain.
