What is a zero hour contract?
When a worker has no set hours and isn’t legally obliged to work any hours and the employer isn’t legally obliged to set any hours

+ leaner workforce
+ flexibility suits workers
- created exploitation of workers
- bad business rep harmed
- anxious workers don’t know if gonna get enough money
What is remote working?
Allowing the employee to work away from the business premises
Pro and can of remote working?
+employees save money not travelling
+ more staff without more office space

-less disciplined at home
-some employees may miss social aspect
What is flexitime?
A system of flexible working hours, giving employee choice over working hours
Pros and cons of flexitime?
+ avoid rush hour
+ pick up children from school
+ better work/ life balance
-communication is disrupted
-meetings may be difficult
-employees unproductive in supervised hours
What is part time work?
A form of employment with less than 35 hours per week
What is term time working?
Working hours mirror the school terms, employees have school holidays off

+ no point employing teachers everyday of the holidays
- only really applicable to school or parents
What is time off in lieu?
Where employees work more throughout peaks and less throughout troughs.

+Staff payed same but only work when needed
+ not payed when not needed
-hours can be unpredictable
What is job sharing?
Where some employees share afternoon and morning or day to day shifts.
Pros and cons of job sharing?
+ if one employee is down another can take their place
- if one’s working in afternoon may not want to work morning and afternoon if sharer can’t
What are compressed hours?
Shorter working week to say 4 days but longer days
