Q

What is invasive vs non-invasive?

A

invasive tests are done by cutting or entering a body part using medical instruments, whereas non-invasive tests do not require breaking the skin or entering the body

Q

How does fMRI work?

A
  • Neurons that are the most active use the most energy (glucose and oxygen)
  • Deoxygenated and oxygenated blood have different magnetic qualities
  • Detects changes in blood oxygenation and flow that occurs during changes to neural activity in specific brain areas
  • Produces a 3D image showing which parts are most active during particular mental processes
