Q

STATE HYGENS PRINCIPLE

A

Such a locus of points, which oscillate in phase is called a
wavefront; thus a wavefront is defined as a surface of constant phase. The speed with which the wavefront moves outwards from the source is called the speed of the wave. The energy of the wave travels in a direction perpendicular to the wavefront.

Q

DEFINE COHERENT SOURCE

A

The source which emits a light wave with the same frequency, wavelength and phase or having a constant phase difference is known as a coherent source.

DEFINE DIFFERACTION

A

Diffraction of light is defined as the bending of light around corners such that it spreads out and illuminates areas where a shadow is expected.

Q

DEFINE POLARISATION

A

Polarisation of light is a property shown by transverse waves. The light waves which travel only in a single plane are known as polarized light waves. The process of transforming unpolarized light waves to polarized light waves is called the polarisation of light

Q

USE OF POLARIODS

A

Polaroids can be used to control the intensity, in sunglasses, windowpanes, etc. Polaroids are also used in photographic cameras and 3D movie cameras.
