Waves Flashcards
- waves transfer….. Without transferring …..
- transverse wave v longitudinal wave?
- examples of both types?
- waves can be (3)?
- appreciable diffraction=?
- when identical waves overlap they….
- waves described in terms of (4)
- meanings of such terms?
- bigger the amplitude the more….
- equation for wave speed?
• energy….matter
• oscillations perpendicular to direction of energy transfer
• oscillations are parallel to direction if energy transfer
• transverse= electromagnetic
longitudinal= sound waves
Mechanical waves (can be both)
• reflected,refracted + diffracted
• wavelength must be of the same order of magnitude as the size of the obstacle or gap
• interfere with each other
• - frequency = no of wave crests passing fixed point in a second (Hz)
- wavelength = distance from one wave crest to the next / trough to trough
- time period = time it takes for each wave to pass
- amplitude= height of wave crest from the middle (position of rope at rest)
• more energy it can carry
• wave speed (m/s) = frequency (Hz) x wavelength (m)
