Waves Flashcards
What are the sources of an energy in a wave
Depending on where it comes from example:light =sun, candle, light bulb. Sound =mouth, TV, radion.
What are the common mediums in a wave
Water, solids, and air
What is a transverse wave and what are its propertis
Ocean waves and light waves, crest=highest point, trough=lowest point, wavelength= from trough to trough or crest to crest
What are longitudnal waves and what are its propertis
Longitudnal waves are sound waves compression= coils are close together rarefaction= spaced out wavelength= one compression to the next
What is frequancy?
Number of waves pass a given point
How is speed of a wave calculated
Frequancy times wavelength = speed
What is amplitude
From rest point to crest
Why do you see a lightning before you hear a thunder
Light travels faster then sound
How does the density of the medium effects the speed of sound
The more dense a medium, the fater the speed of sound trough it
What happens when there is stiff medium in a sound wave
Travels more quickly
