Waves Flashcards
Whats the difference between transverse and longitudinal wave?
Transverse waves cause the medium to move perpendicular to the direction of the wave. Longitudinal waves cause the medium to move parallel to the direction of the wave.
Whats the doppler effect?
the change in wave frequency during the relative motion between a wave source and its observer
Whats resonance?
the occurrence of a vibrating object causing another object to vibrate a higher amplitude
Whats constructive and destructive interference?
Destructive interference is when two waves traveling in the same direction are aligned at the crest of one wave and the trough of the other. The waves cancel out. Constructive interference is when two waves traveling in the same direction overlap, and their crests combine to produce a larger wave.
