Waves Flashcards
Wavelength
(Λ) Distance between two peaks of the wave.
Frequency
(v) The number of wave cycles per second.
Amplitude
(a) The height from the center of the wave to the peak.
What is the speed of light equation?
c = Λ * v
What is C?
The speed of light which is 3.0 x 10^8 m/s
What do waves do when they come into contact with each other?
They interfere with each other which can cause a constructive interference or a destructive interference.
What is a constructive interference?
When two waves traveling in the same direction overlap, and their crests combine to produce a larger wave.
What is a destructive interference?
Occurs when waves come together so that they completely cancel each other out.
Standing Wave
Combination of two waves moving on opposite directions each having the same amplitude and frequency.
Quantization
Physical quantity can have only certain discrete values. Quantum numbers are quantized on all microscopic level.
Nodes
One or more points between the two end points that are not in motion.
